2024 - WOAA teams on to the OMHA's, MH-REP (Western Ontario Athletic Association)

The following are the WOAA Champion teams for 2023-2024 season and how they did at the 2024 OMHA Championship Tournament.  Teams in brackets also advanced to the OMHA's with results as follows: 

U11
Tier 1 Cruickshank Champion -Walkerton
Walkerton went undefeated in three round robin games to advance to the semi finals against Loyalist.  The WOAA Tier 1 champions scored with 3:33 remaining in the third period to squeak out a 4-3 win and advanced to the final.  In the matchup for the Red Hats against East Elgin, Walkerton scored once in each of the first and second periods.  East Elgin got back to within one early in the third but Walkerton countered a few minutes later and added an insurance marker late to close out the championship run with a 4-1 final.

Tier 2 Gregg Champion -Mid Huron  (Mt. Forest)
Mid Huron ended their round robin play in a three way tie with a win and two ties in three games.  Their goals for and against placed them in top spot in their pool.  In the semi final game Mid Huron scored with seven minutes remaining in the game to break a 1-1 tie and they held on for a 2-1 victory over Napanee and a ticket to the final.
Mt Forest were also undefeated in the round robin portion of the tournament with two wins and a tie, good for first place in their group.  They coasted to an 8-4 win over Six Nations to set up a final matchup of the two WOAA teams for the Red Hats.
Both teams battled hard and exchanged goals in the first period.  Mt. Forest outscored Mid Huron 2-1 in the second and added a pair of goals in the final frame for a 5-2 victory and the OMHA Championship.

Tier 3 Lockridge Champion -South Bruce  (Drayton #2)
South Bruce  were victorious in two of their three round robin games to advance to the playoff round against Ilderton.  South Bruce built up a 2-0 lead early in the second period but Ilderton battled back with two of their own in the third and then won the contest 3:29 into the overtime.
Drayton #2 were in a tough group and were winless in three round robin games.

U13
Tier 1 Cruickshank Champion -Kincardine
Kincardine breezed through the round robin undefeated then clipped Highland Storm 6-2 in the semi final.  The WOAA T-1 champs led 2-1 against Clearview in the final and maintained a one goal advantage at 3-2 after two periods.  Clearview came out hard in the third knotting things up midway through third then quickly took a 4-3 lead.  Kincardine battled back and tallied the equalizer with 3:54 remaining and then with just over two minutes remaining, they knocked in the go ahead goal and went on to claim a 5-4 championship victory.

Tier 2 Gregg Champion -Arran Elderslie  (Drayton #1)
Arran Elderslie had a pair of wins and a tie in their round robin games to finish first in their group.  The WOAA champs lost a heartbreaker in the semi finals as East Lambton scored the lone goal with 3:31 remaining in the game.  East Lambton went on to edge out Wallaceburg in the final. 
Drayton#1 had a tie and two losses in their three round robin games and were eliminated from further play.

Tier 3 Lockridge Champion -Mid Huron D  (Mt. Forest)
Mid Huron D won two and tied once in three round robin games.  The tie came in their matchup with the eventual champions from Lambton shores.  West Lorne held a 3-1 lead over Mid Huron D team in the semi final game only to see the Mid Huron squad knot things up in the third period.  That sent the game into overtime but it was short lived as West Lorne earned a trip to the finals with the winning marker just 23 seconds into the extra frame.
Mt. Forest had a win and two losses in round robin play and did not advance to the semi finals.

U15
Tier 1 Cruickshank Champion -Kincardine
Kincardine  ended second in their round robin with two victories in three games.  That put them up against the undefeated Ennismore team who pulled off a 5-1 win to eliminate the WOAA champions.

Tier 2 Gregg Champion -Shallow Lake (Goderich)
Shallow Lake earned a win and a tie in their round robin two games to end first in their group and earned a spot in the quarter finals against St. Catherines.  The WOAA champs breezed to a 5-0 win.
Goderich won both their round robin games and also earned a bye to avoid the play-in games.  They then advanced to the semi finals with a 3-1 victory over Dresdan.
That set the stage for a rematch of the WOAA finals teams to see who would go to the OMHA final.  Shallow Lake netted a pair of goals in the second after a scoreless opening frame.  Goderich rebounded in the third with two powerplay goals to tie things up and send the game to overtime.  Nothing was decided in the opening extra period but Goderich found the mark in the opening minute of the second extra frame to win 3-2.
A few hours later Goderich laced them up again against Talbot Trails and had things tied 1-1 at the end of the second.  Talbot applied the pressure in the third and scored three times to take home the championship.

Tier 3 Lockridge Champion -Mt. Forest  (Arran Elderslie)
Mt. Forest ended second in their pool with a 2-1 won - loss record while Arran Elderslie went undefeated in their three games to claim first place in their pool.  That meant a rematch for the two WOAA finalists teams in the OMHA semi finals.  This time Arran Elderslie came out flying with two goals in the opening two minutes and coasted to a 5-0 win.  In the final, South Huron (also undefeated in the tournament) led 2-1 after the first and 3-2 by the end of the second.  Arran Elderslie pressed hard for the equalizer but the final period ended scoreless.

U18
Tier 1 Cruickshank Champion -Mitchell 
Mitchell went 2-0-1 (including a 3-3 tie with Elmvale) to end up in top spot in their pool.  In the crossover semi final game, Mitchell scored with 1:24 remaining in OT to earn a 3-2 win over Parry Sound.  Elmvale and Mitchell met again in the final and this time Mitchell scored three straight goals in the second after Elmvale had netted the lone goal of the opening period.  Elmvale battled back with two early goals in the third 41 seconds apart to tie the championship contest.  The teams battled through the rest of regulation time and then 45 seconds into overtime it was Elmvale that broke the tie to take home the championship.

Tier 2 Gregg Champion - Minto
Minto went undefeated in round robin play with two wins and a tie to place second in their group.  That placed them in the semi-final against the opposite group first place finishers from Norwood.  Minto opened the scoring with the lone goal of the first but Norwood stormed back to take a 3-2 lead after the middle frame.  Midway through the third Minto pressed and were rewarded with the equalizer to send the game to OT.  It just was not meant to be for the WOAA team as Norwood tallied with 1:43 left in the first overtime to eliminate Minto. There was only one minor penalty called in the fast paced game.

Tier 3 Lockridge Champion -Mid Huron D (Wingham and South Bruce)
Mid Huron D battled through three ties in their round robin games but it was not enough to advance to the semi-finals. 
Wingham also ended their round robin with three points (1-1-1) but lost out on a tie breaker and had to settle for third place.
South Bruce were in the same pool as Mid Huron D but managed a pair of wins with their tie for first place.  They met East Lambton in the semi final and pulled out a 5-2 win to advance to the final.  West Lorne avenged an earlier tournament loss to South Bruce by scoring 3 power play goals in the second and hung on for a 4-3 victory.

U21 WOAA Champion -Shallow Lake
Shallow Lake was one of four centers vying for the OMHA crown.  They managed one win in their three round robin games but that was good enough for a three way tie for second behind the undefeated Ennismore team.  Based on the goals for and against formula, Shallow Lake was awarded second place and it meant a repeat of the morning game against Lucan.  The result was the same as the earlier contest with Lucan winning this one 5-1 to end Shallow Lake's tournament run.  The fourth place West Niagara squad upset undefeated Ennismore in the semi-finals but Lucan prevailed in the final.
